  1.         RoseWare Launches "Network Developer's Resource"

  4. WELCOME!
  5. RoseWare launched their monthly journal, the "Network Developer's
  6. Resource" (NDR) at Novell's BrainShare '93 conference.  RoseWare
  7. co-launched their publication with McGraw-Hill/LAN Times who was
  8. there to introduce the new "NetWare Technical Journal" (NTJ). 
  9. Charles Rose, publisher of the NDR is also the Senior Technical
  10. Advisor to McGraw-Hill's NTJ.
  11.  
  12. The NDR is a technical journal that provides information similar
  13. to that found in Rose's "Programmer's Guide to NetWare", a book
  14. published by McGraw-Hill in late 1990 which provides reference
  15. material for NetWare developers as well as sample code and
  16. explanations for how to write NetWare-aware software.
  17.  
  18. Since late 1991 when McGraw-Hill ceased publication of the NTJ,
  19. there has been a growing need for a publication that addresses
  20. the ever-burdensome increase of technical issues.  Other
  21. technical publications have chosen to focus more on system-level
  22. topics, such as those for integrators, consultants, and system
  23. administrators, while the NDR focuses primarily on developers and
  24. those interested in the programming-level aspects of NetWare.   
  25.  
  26. INDUSTRY SUPPORT
  27. The NDR has enjoyed support both from Novell, as well as the
  28. software development industry.  "A technical publication that
  29. specifically addresses NetWare development issues like RoseWare's
  30. 'Network Developer's Resource' will be of great value to Novell's
  31. developers," said Willie Tejada, Director, Developer Relations,
  32. Novell, Inc.  "Charles Rose has, throughout his years of
  33. association with Novell, displayed a unique understanding and
  34. ability to articulate technical solutions.  Novell is committed
  35. to the highest quality support and education, and we feel
  36. RoseWare's publication will be an asset to anyone considering
  37. development to the NetWare platform."

  39. According to Steve Meyer, President of Avanti Technology in
  40. Austin, Texas, "Much as Novell's Brainshare has long been the
  41. forum for NetWare developers to come together and share
  42. information, RoseWare and their Network Developer's Resource
  43. newsletter offers a unique information sharing medium but on a
  44. more regular and needed basis.  As the author of the Programmer's
  45. Guide to NetWare and a respected member of the NetWare
  46. development community, Charles Rose has both the insight and
  47. connections to provide an invaluable resource to both commercial
  48. and in-house developers of NetWare based applications."

  52. Journal and Dr. Dobb's.  I also plan to frequent their forum
  53. every time I pass by NetWire."

  62. CONTENT AND COMPUSERVE 
  63. The NDR will document new API's, bug fixes, NetWare products, and
  64. new technologies.  The publication will take a more in-depth and
  65. hands-on approach than other publications have in the past. 
  66. Where other publications may have mentioned a technical area, the
  67. NDR will show exactly how to perform a particular function; in
  68. most cases, the articles will be supported by sample code.

  70. That sample code can download from RoseWare's section in Novell's
  71. Vendor forum (NOVVEN section 11 -- just type GO ROSEWARE on
  72. CompuServe).  RoseWare will also be communicating with readers,
  73. announcing upcoming articles and services, and posting relevant
  74. files in their CompuServe forum section.

  77. RoseWare is extending a charter offer where the basic rate has
  78. been reduced 25% to $95 and subscribers will receive a free copy
  79. of the new Bantam book "NetWare Power Tools for Windows", also by

  89. Many issues face networking professionals in 1993 and the NDR
  90. will be covering them in-depth and hands-on.  You won't want to
  91. miss coverage of topics like NetWare 4.0, Windows for Workgroups,
  92. OS/2, UnixWare, and Windows/NT.  Here is just a small sample of

  104. Microsoft may have gone too far in their claims of NetWare
  105. compatibility for Windows for Workgroups, but the NPR will pull
  106. it together and sort out the issues surrounding NDIS, ODI, and
  107. configuring Windows for Workgroups to work with NetWare.

  109. *  An Intimate Look at the NetWare APIs.   While many of the
  110. NetWare APIs are documented, you often need a deeper level of
  111. understanding to make them truly useful.  In this series, we will
  112. probe the NetWare APIs and discuss the often hidden workings of
  113. them.  Expect to see lots of examples and source code.
